Western Oklahoma to Tucumcari
Bypass. It is a bad word. We had to face reality and do just that. After spending the whole day the previous day in eastern Oklahoma, we knew we would never make it if we did that on this day. So, unfortunately, and sadly, we had to pass up many of our favorite Oklahoma Route 66 spots.

We always stop in this town in hopes of seeing Harley and Annabelle at the Sand Hills Curiosity shop in Erick, Oklahoma. We have not had any luck in this regard, which is understandable, as Annabelle has been fighting illness and we wish her well. However, this colorful stop is a great place for us to stop, rest up, stretch our legs and get some photos.

This is the first time that we were able to visit the U Drop Inn when it was open and we could see the gift shop. A motorcycle tour group from Australia pulled in and the place was quite busy with tourists from all over the world. The place had nice complimentary Keurig coffee which I desperately needed.

Russels Truck Stop
Here is a good rest stop after passing the Texas panhandle and winding up our day in Tucumcari, New Mexico. We let the dogs out so they could roam in the small dog walk area. I wandered in to peruse the car museum inside which has a lot of cars mostly from the 50's set up with period items and artifacts.

Blue Swallow Motel
Kevin and Nancy were taking a much needed vacation and were out of town, but we had the pleasure of meeting their son and his wife, who were running things in their absence.
And while we visited, Melba Rigg from
Cars on the Route showed up. She stopped in to say hi too. Melba got a kick out of meeting "Melba," our camper van. She is heading with her companions to Kingman, Arizona.

While we were taking our pix, a young mother with a child asked us if we could take a picture of her little boy. We met her in Kingman, where she was doing the same thing. It turns out posing her child with icons of the route was her project, and the
