The Journey is the Destination: Saturday 9 August 2014--Heading out

After months of preparation, the final weeks before our trip came and we still found ourselves short.  We bought a camper van and having not prepped very well by camping in it, we found we were going to learn the hard way during our vacation.  The biggest problem was the generator and storage of the fuel for the generator.  The second biggest problem was fidgeting with the older dog and where she was going to sit during the trip.  Excessive coddling of her wants made the trip unenjoyable.  However, by far, the biggest issue was that my partner, really didn't want this trip, and made it known, much to my misery.  We nearly turned around and went home more than once.

Buying Tires for the trip two weeks before...
Also, both of us came down with a really bad cold about a week before the trip.  I came down with it first, then Suyen caught it from me.  She was still feeling crummy when we left the house.

Heading Out
Code Yellow
The day finally arrived.  I wanted to leave after work.  Suyen wanted to leave…. never.  I pushed and prodded and we finally left about 20:00.  It was way late to catch up with the Springfield Route 66 festival.

Melba is ready to go….
Leaving our home for 11 days...
Melba is ready, but the MRS. isn't….
As organized as it gets...
And away we gooooo…… down 169

Passing Harrisonville, MO at dusk...
Turning on MO 7 HWY

Osceola MO
Collins, MO
Humansville, MO
Bolivar, MO
Our first piss stop of the trip.  We stopped at an Eagle stop north of Springfield to let the doggies run and to take care of our needs.  There were some malevolent meth looking creepies hanging out so we didn't stay long.
We got to Springfield.  I cruised through town hoping for a good cup of joe at one of the coffeehouses if nothing else.  The festival was done except for a few drunk hangers on.  We drove around Springfield and I got an earful from the MRS. about how this was such a bad idea  and how I needed to do something and how I didn't plan this well, so much so that I nearly turned for home then.  I never had so much trouble finding a truck stop.  Somebody found lots of fault with the truck stop too.
