We found a truckstop, finally, A T/A north of town.  For the first time we ran the generator and attempted to use the marine tank that came with it.  We have a good lock and chain and we locked it to the back bumper.  We were paranoid about drawing attention to ourselves and about waking people who were in adjacent cars sleeping.  In the middle of the night the generator shut down.  Apparently I didn't have the spare tank set up right.  I couldn't figure it out, so I went into the truck stop and bought an extra tank and filled it up.  I took one last attempt at figuring out the marine tank and got it to work.  I didn't want to use the fuel from T/A.  The instructions on the generator are to use premium fuel only with no ethanol.  There was ethanol in the T/A premium.  I used the gas I bought in Melba's tank.  When we got up, the MRS. was extra grumpy and let me know it.  I was groused at all the way into Springfield.  It seemed she didn't want to drive on 66 at all but wanted to "hurry up and get there" on the interstate.  Where "there" is, I don't know, because to me, 66 is "there."
Springfield Route 66 Park
Our first stop is the place where Red's Giant Hamburg stand used to be.  Part of Springfields festival was the opening of a new park dedicated to route 66.

Great Photo Op.  Landscapers are still working on the park, even on a Sunday.
This mural predates the park.  It has been here for years.

We've struck Giant Hamburg!
Notta video I shot -- it predates me by a long time (I think I was in high school when It was made) but it gave me some perspective on the history of a place that is long gone...

After Gay Parita, and visiting with Gary, I guess the ideas didn't sink in.  We had a huge argument which ended up in us taking a wrong turn and nearly heading for home.  We got it all sorted out and decided to find a campground at a State Park in Oklahoma.  Breaking Karma with the road can mean many things.  Most simply it can mean going off the route.  However, in the most important way, it means to lose the spirit of the route with your deeds and intentions.  The spirit is hard to define as it is different for each person.  The route should be fun and uplifting.  During this trip we had to go off of the route to make our schedule.  Unfortunately, the real world steps in.  With limited time and resources that is the reality of our life.  The important things are to try to make time for that which you would prioritize, and hope that you are not passing over something golden for a worthless goal.  We all fall so short in so many ways.  The words of Gary Turner, if you are familiar, are like the pearls of wisdom coming from a wise sage on a hill.  The argument zig zagged us way off track, and maybe, sometimes, that is where you have to go to find your way.
